First, I can not even begin to explain my anger towards the video clip we saw about the family going to the funeral of soldiers. It completely infuriated me to the point I wanted to find all of those people and beat them up! I find it completely contradictory for people of God to show such hatred and cruelty to an entire group of people. It also just makes me made since I have seen the personal struggles of my gay and lesbians friends. No one can possibly understand what they go through in their day to day lives. I have had to stand up for them multiple times in my small town and completely not diverse school, and every time I have a hard time controlling my anger towards these people. After reading the book I felt sympathy for Cal, because he had to go through his life with so much complication and not really ever knowing who he truly is. In the world today people claim to be people of God and kind, forgiving people, but meanwhile they are showing hatred for gays and saying they are all going to hell. How can they say that when we are all God's children; he created us all. Why aren't people able to judge others based on their character? No matter what people do or say, people are going to be who they want to be and do what they want to do, so just let everyone have their freedom of self-expression and let them live their lives. If they are causing no harm to you than why criticize and be cruel to them?

I too felt anger towards those people. It's interesting how those people clame to be people of God when God's people are suppose to love thy neighbor. I also felt sympathy for Cal. He didn't choose to be different and people shouldn't judge others because there not like them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you completely. I belive that freedom and speech and self expression are very important but I think the church people went way too far, picketing outside of soldiers funerals. I too got extremely angry watching that videa clip because I have also had friends that were gay or lesbian. I also understand how hard it is for them to live day to day taking the ridicule from others and dealing with it. You couldn't have said it better about those people claiming themselves as being children of God and doing Gods work. People who support the GLBT are children of God too and their voices should be heard as well.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what you are saying. The Westborro Baptist Church says and does a lot of things that are offensive to homosexuals. The law permits them to do this, but the law also permits people to do things like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Of_2ykZpQ&NR=1 Anti-protests like this are the best way to handle people like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. Watching that video made me so angry. Freedom of speech is one thing but going to a funeral and disrespecting a person and their family is totally uncalled for. I believe we are all equal in God's eyes and he loves everyone. People just need to get along.(ELE-Everbody Love Everybody)
